As a girl, I always wanted a dollhouse. I was fascinated with the miniature furniture. Trying new layouts with the tiny pieces was as easy as lifting a thimble. Unfortunately, I never had one of my very own, relying on friends’ Barbie Dream Houses to get my fix.
So, of course, I jumped at the chance to get a preview of Target’s Dollhouse in Grand Central Terminal (http://www.target.com/c/threshold-brand-shop/-/N-56clv) yesterday. Walking up to the whitewashed wonder, I felt like a doll-come-to-life. Illuminated with spotlights, I couldn’t wait to cross the threshold and get a sneak peek at some of Target’s newest home accents.
The front door opened into the kitchen, which brimmed with retro bright ceramic ware in shades of teal and sunset orange.
With white dinnerware and a burst of fuchsia flowers, the dining table was set for a chic afternoon luncheon.
I had to fight the impulse to sink into the sofa that was swimming with comfy toss pillows.
The styling of the built-in bookcases showcased lots of lovely new baskets, art, and pottery.
For me, the piece de resistance, was the queen bed in the master suite. Hewn from planks of knotty wood, I loved the sculptural beauty of the curving headboard (a knockoff of ones I’ve seen at other stores for quadruple the price!)
No dollhouse would be complete without a patch of AstroTurf. And this one did not disappoint. Across Grand Central’s Vanderbilt Hall was the lawn, complete with croquet and stepping-stones. I sat a spell and took in the majesty of the home (majestic for me as my entire apartment is less than half the size of Target’s display.) My visit was a dream come true for this dollhouse lover and interior design enthusiast.
